FUJIFILM ENHANCES PRODUCTIVITY WITH SYNAPSEŽ VERSION 3.2.1

Also demonstrates extensions for cardiology and 3D at RSNA, extending domain to cover more of the enterpri

Chicago, IL. - November 25, 2007 - Today at the Radiological Society of North America Annual Meeting, FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA, Inc. is introducing Synapse version 3.2.1. This new software release is an extension of version 3.2 that delivers a number of key user-requested enhancements to increase user efficiencies, and also provides greater functionality for the interpretation of digital mammography studies. Throughout the week Fujifilm will be demonstrating Synapse 3.2.1, along with a number of key product integrations and upgrades in areas including cardiology, 3D and PET/CT.

Synapse 3.2.1
Paramount to Synapse 3.2.1 is a new Graphical User Interface (GUI) designed to provide significant productivity improvements that enable radiologists to more swiftly identify and access information and generate reports. The new look of the interface is still based on Fujifilm's hallmark Web-based foundation and simplified design, but now delivers even greater ease-of-use not just for radiologists but for all clinical users, including mammographers and cardiologists. Specific GUI changes include increased use of color to help quickly identify changes in information on the display, new icons, and a contrast scheme that is suitable for radiology viewing conditions.

Also included in Synapse 3.2.1 are enhancements designed to meet the specific workflow challenges of full field digital mammography such as quadrant zooming and common frame of reference (CFOR) Navigation, which allows for window / leveling, zooming, and mirror panning of linked images to improve diagnostic efficiency. Other key features of Synapse 3.2.1 include seamless 3D integration for visualization of image volumes and patient/exam display synchronization with clinical information systems for critical data such as lab results.

"Our goal with Synapse product evolution is twofold; to continually improve our core Synapse technology to meet the evolving needs of our users, while also expanding the domains that Synapse encompasses beyond radiology," explained Bob Cooke, Fujifilm's Vice President, Network Business Development. "At RSNA Fujifilm's product demonstrations will clearly establish Synapse as an innovative and user-friendly PACS for radiology, mammography and cardiology."

Cardiology
In addition to Synapse version 3.2.1, Fujifilm is also highlighting advanced cardiology capabilities. As a result of January's acquisition of ProSolv CardioVascular, Fujifilm has already realized the benefits of the flexibility of the two system's unique capabilities and architectures, and at RSNA is delivering an in-depth, tightly knit integration. The Synapse ProSolv CardioVascular application1 enables radiologists to seamlessly access all cardiology images and information while working within Synapse, while conversely cardiologists can access all Synapse radiology data - all from one workstation, with a single sign-on and familiar user interface. Other benefits of the integrated Synapse ProSolv CardioVascular application include:

  • Complete Web-based viewing and reporting capabilities using Web communication protocols secured via SSL
  • Workflow and clinical advantages for all users - administrative and clinical
  • Shared infrastructure and cost savings benefits for the facility, such as access to Fujifilm's Managed Services including active monitoring and disaster recovery
  • Cardiology access to Fujifilm's patented compression and CommonView technologies, among others

The Synapse ProSolv CardioVascular application is available with ProSolv's version 4.02. Being shown as a works-in-progress at RSNA, ProSolv's version 4.0 has among its advantages numerous viewing and reporting enhancements for cardiac catheterization and echocardiography. And for all users, both radiology and cardiology, newly added resting ECG and Holter management support delivered by ProSolv's OpenECG integration will provide ready access to these exams.

3D
Finally, at RSNA Fujifilm is demonstrating future extensions to its distributed 3D3 software, including PET / CT fusion. Work-in-progress advancements to existing diagnostic MIP/MPR capabilities for Synapse are being demonstrated. All of Fujifilm's 3D applications are designed to be available anywhere on the network that Synapse PACS is available.
