FUJIFILM RECEIVES CERTIFICATE OF NETWORTHINESS FROM US AIR FORCE

Certification Underscores Fuji's Commitment to IT Security

Stamford, CT - November 16, 2006 - FUJIFILM Medical Systems USA is pleased to announce that Fuji has received the Certificate of Networthiness (CoN) from the US Air Force Communications Agency for its Synapse PACS (Picture Archiving and Communications System). The CoN, a United States Air Force System Certification, has become a requirement for any information system that will operate on the Air Force Network. The intent of this stringent certification process is to ensure that the highest levels of network security are achieved. As a recipient of the CoN for Synapse, Fuji becomes one of only two major PACS suppliers to receive this important certificate.

According to Major Sean Murphy, CHE, CISSP-ISSMP, Air Force Medical Support Agency (AFMSA), "The AF CoN is the gold-standard within the AF Information Assurance community. As a risk management tool, it requires in-depth testing and evaluation against firm, validated guidelines. The certification and accreditation effort is cooperative between system suppliers and the Air Force. The process can be very challenging in that guidance can change as new vulnerabilities are uncovered and it requires 'stick-to-it-ive-ness.' Fuji readily met the demands in short order. We tested the Synapse application against the Defense Information Systems Agency (DISA) Security Technical Implementation Guidelines, or 'STIGS,' and several AF threat matrices. Synapse clearly demonstrated the ability to perform in a secure environment with virtually no degradation to clinical functionality. Appropriately, Fuji Synapse has received a CoN."

The Certification of Networthiness received by Fuji required compliance with rigorous standards established by the United States Air Force for any system that operates on an Air Force Network. The process of certification began when Fuji completed the required technical documentation, providing the Air Force with a clear picture of their readiness to move into the live testing phase of the certification process. Fuji then performed a full round of extensive tests of Synapse with the Air Force testing authority.

Fuji anticipates the CoN will aid the company's ability to expand their IT relationships into other branches of the US government, and it will also serve as validation for private sector facilities that are seeking only the most secure systems. A number of CIOs of non-governmental health care organizations have expressed interest in the approach taken by the Department of Defense as a potential model for operating secure medical information systems.

According to Christopher Finn, Fuji's National Director of Government Accounts, "The Air Force Certificate of Networthiness is recognized among all branches of the military as the benchmark for validation of medical device security. Fuji's receipt of the Air Force CoN is extremely important to our Department of Defense clients, and we believe this achievement, combined with a very successful implementation of Synapse throughout the Air Force Pacific Command, contributed to Fuji's success in winning the PACS award for the Naval Medical Center, Portsmouth, Virginia. As we continue to expand our support for government accounts, we believe the CoN will pave the way for future success. The CoN is an ongoing process requiring lots of serious work, but it clearly demonstrates our commitment to deliver excellence in imaging technology to our government customers."
